During the summer term, cricket is taught in our weekly Sports lesson. As with all sport at Airthrie, boys and girls are coached together, in mixed ability groups. Each lesson is run by two members of specialist staff and, therefore, can cater for pupils with differing abilities and provide individual coaching for those that require it.
Wind balls and Quik cricket bats are used to build confidence with batting, catching and fielding skills. Children are coached in pairs at the start of every session, which will invariably focus on the development of bowling and batting skills. This will lead to small rotating games, which ensure that all children have the opportunity to be fully involved and practise their skills.
Pupils from Years 4-6 are encouraged to attend our after-school Cricket Club that provides the opportunity to represent the school in matches against other schools. Please see 'Clubs - Cricket' for more detail.
