Relationship and Sex Education (RSE)

Airthrie follow the RSE Primary Scheme of Work which has been complied by the Gloucestershire Healthy Living and Learning (GHLL) team – a clear and progressive series of lessons to support PSHE to ensure that children are given the opportunity to understand what a healthy relationship is, as well as being able to better understand the changes that will happen to their bodies as they grow.

At Airthrie we place emphasis upon supporting pupils' understanding and skills in developing positive and healthy relationships which is a lifelong learning process; it is about their physical, sexual, moral and emotional development.  It also covers the importance of stable and loving relationships, respect, love and care which involves acquiring information, developing skills and forming positive beliefs, values and attitudes.

In planning and presenting our RSE programme we provide an opportunity for pupils to express themselves within a trusted and safe environment.  Central to our RSE/PSHE programme is the development of pupils’ self-esteem.  If young people feel positive and good about themselves they are more likely to take care of themselves, think positively of other people and therefore, develop non-exploitative, caring relationships.
