Mr Neil Southgate

Peripatetic Music Teacher

Time at Airthrie: 01/09/2016 (a year ago)
Qualifications: BMus (Hons), MA
Specialist Subjects: Music - Brass

I studied music at Cardiff University, where I held the position of principal trumpet in the main orchestra. Since this time, I have engaged in music education and perform regularly for various ensembles. I teach trombone, cornet and trumpet to pupils at Airthrie School, though would welcome (to name a few) baritone, euphonium, horn and tuba players, too!

I work across Gloucestershire and Swansea as a freelance peripatetic music tutor in primary and secondary schools, delivering individual and small group lessons. I act as a music coordinator within one primary school in Gloucester, delivering whole class music, brass and recorder lessons for children at Foundation Stage and Key Stages 1 and 2.

I run a brass ensemble at a local secondary school and am also a music tutor for Gloucestershire Music, where I run a beginner adult wind ensemble, while supporting another (Lakeside Concert Band). I am now in my third year as a staff member at Five Valleys Music Centre in Stroud, and run whole class brass lessons.
