Congratulations go to two of our pupils who finished in the top ten of the Cheltenham Primary Schools' League. As the final fixture was cancelled the best scores from two out of three races were combined and Megan Amey (Y5) finished in 10th place and Jemima O' Conner (Y6) in 9th.
A top 10 position meant an invitation for the girls to run for Cheltenham in the 'Gloucestershire Primary Cross Country Championship' which was held on Saturday 29th February at Katherine Lady Berkeley School in Wotton Under Edge. After all the rain on the previous day the course was considerably wet and muddy; however the rain held off and there was even some sunshine during the event.
Each race had a field of approximately 90 runners. Running in the Y5 and under girls' race Megan progressed through the field and demonstrated her strength with a strong last lap to complete the course in about 20th place. The Year 6 girls' race was the last of the day and conditions had been made worse underfoot by the other runners in the previous races; however Jemima set off in a position near the front and although overtaken by a few runners, rallied well towards the end to overtake at least four girls in the home straight and finish in about 16th place.
The Cheltenham teams performed well enough to win the overall District Trophy, with medals awarded for all ten runners in each category. Year 5 girls were awarded medals for a second overall placing and the Year 6 girls were 1st.
