Women's Artistic Gymnastics 28th September 2017

Written by: Andrea Wilson

We feel a special mention is due to Lilly (one of our Year 5 pupils) for her amazing dedication to, and achievements in, Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (four piece discipline - floor, bar, beam and vault). Lilly trains five times a week at Rowan Gymnastics’ Club in Cheltenham with Head Coach Dave Powell, without whose support and commitment none of this would have been possible.

She started training at age 3 after showing a natural flair at home and very quickly her talent became apparent in the Infant Class. At age 5, Dave offered Lilly a place in their Competition Squad and she went on to win Gold at many competitions each year.

Aged 7, Lilly and Dave made the decision that she should train the Elite Pathway for compulsory elite grades and, alongside this, she competes at in age competitions - the highest level of gymnastics for her age. She is currently competing at in age level 4.

Lilly’s training consists of over 12 hours per week; some of which is extremely intense 1:1 training. Her determination, dedication and sheer drive to improve is amazing and involves many sacrifices.

Lilly also trains with Gloucestershire’s Higher County Squad where she was offered a place. This year she has won Gold at the Gloucestershire Floor and Vault Competition in age level 4, and competed at the South West Age Group Championships where she won Gold on Vault and was placed 6th overall and non-travelling reserve to the National Finals.

She is training hard to compete in Compulsory 3 Elite Grades early next year and we wish her every success in the future and will follow her progress with huge interest.
