Our cricketers have enjoyed a very active season, playing in a wide range of matches and tournaments.
For the first time at Airthrie, the School team entered a traditional hard-ball cricket tournament at Crackley Hall, Kenilworth. In addition to competitive matches, there were coaching stations programmed throughout the day. This proved to be an excellent experience for the whole squad.
We entered the annual Cheltenham Primary Schools Tournament, losing in the quarter finals against the eventual winners (RPS), after two victories against Gotherington and St Edwards (B).
Other opponents during the season included Rendcomb (on the 2nd day of term!), St. John's, Berkhampstead, St. Edwards and RPS (B).
Our School now has a healthy fixture list and there are at least six members of the squad who play for cricket clubs outside of Airthrie which now augers well for the future.
The squad consisted of a strong body of Year 6 players, ably backed up by cricketers from Year 5 and Year 4. All of this skilfully led by the captain, Alex McLain, who shows the signs of a future tactician and leader.
The following players represented the school this season: Alex McLain (Capt), Elliot England, Henry Milne, Harry Kempson, Ben Robinson-Baber, George Hobbs (Y5), Charlie Watkins (Y4), Christian Hindmarch, Edward Craske (Y5), Sam Fulford, Tom Sharrock, Wolfie Cross, Joshua Castledine and Edward Anstey (Y4).
