Cricket News June 201518th June 2015

Written by: Richard Wright

It was a very busy week for the cricket team. On Tuesday Airthrie played St Edward's and on Wednesday our opponents were Berkhampstead.

Against St Edward's Airthrie bowled first and kept St Edward's score to +38 due to some very accurate bowling and excellent fielding.

Airthrie batted second and scored freely with some very exciting running between the wickets. Airthrie finished with a total of +81 so, therefore, we won by 73 runs.

The following day the cricketers played St Edward's. St Edward's batted strongly as they opened, however Airthrie might have reduced their totals with some more effective catching. Once again, the boys bowled very accurately, nevertheless, St Edward's finished with a positive score of 86.

Airthrie batted second but were a little too keen to hit out, resulting in some early wickets reducing the score. Despite a late rally, Airthrie never really got close to the St Edward's score and ended with a positive score of 31 runs. However it was a very enjoyable experience for all.

Special word of thanks should be given to Sarah Watkins and Victoria Hindmarch who surprised Mr Wright and the boys by producing two delicious teas between the innings and after the match.

Also, thanks to Finn Jackson who umpired throughout the game which was a great help to us all.
